From the Carboniferous,middle Pennsylvanian,Francis creek shale.
Collected from the Chowder flats, near Essex,northern Illinois,USA.
A well detailed (By Mazon creek biota standards) enteropneust Hemichordate, Acorn worm,with both the positive and negative of the nodule present.
This species posses a proboscis, suggestive of an infaunal deposit feeder,Living and feeding in the substrate.
Worms are rarely fossilised, due to being made up of a Gelatinous substance instead of any hard parts,but the Mazon creek Laggerstatte is really very special.
The nodule measures 55mm x 33mm.
